FROSTBURG — Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the second inning, Mountain Ridge scored six runs to take the lead. No. 4 Petersburg got within a run in the sixth, but the Miners (2-3) held on for an 8-7 upset win on Monday.

The Vikings (4-1) scored four runs in the top of the first off a Lacey Moyers double, an Ella Chew (Potomac State commit) walk and a groundout. A Miley Tingler double made it 5-0 in the second before Mountain Ridge loaded the bases off two walks and a Brilee Bennett single. Macy Barth drove both runners in on a double, then singles from Anne Baker, Madison Bowman and Juliana Burress put the Miners ahead 6-5.

Moyers singled in the top of the third to even the score. Gabby Shingler singled to retake the lead in the bottom of the third, then Barth added a run in the fifth on a single to right. A fielder’s choice in the sixth got the Vikings to within 8-7, but Petersburg stranded two runners to end the game.
