Southern's Parks WestMAC Player of Year; all-conference girls squad unveiled
Southern senior Emelee Parks was voted Western Maryland Athletic Conference Player of the Year by the league’s coaches as part of the all-conference squad that was revealed this week. Parks, who is signed to West Virginia Wesleyan, led Southern to an 8-0 record and a third straight WestMAC title. The Rams went on to capture the Class 1A state championship.
The Rams guard averaged 14 points per game and topped the league in assists (5. 0) and steals (5. 0) in conference play.
Allegany was second in the WestMAC with a 6-2 record, followed by Mountain Ridge (3-5), Fort Hill (2-6) and Northern (1-7). Parks was joined on the first team by teammate Jayden Weaver (13. 0 ppg), the league’s top scorer in Mountain Ridge’s Kealana Pua’auli (17.
8 ppg), Northern’s Abby Nelson (17. 3 ppg) and Allegany’s Braylin Bosley (8. 5 points, 4.
5 assists per game). Weaver and Pua’auli also received votes for Player of the Year. The second team was made up of Southern’s Kelsey and Joycelyn Ward, Allegany’s Amanda Vizza and Savannah Walton, Mountain Ridge’s Taylor Lamberson and Fort Hill’s Aubry Spangler.
