Yankees update on Carlos Rodon’s hamstring issue; latest on Luis Gil

The Yankees complete their season-opening roadtrip in Seattle on Wednesday, then play their home opener against the Marlins on Friday at Yankee Stadium.

SEATTLE — It appears Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon ’s first scheduled rehab start is being pushed back from this week due to right hamstring tightness . That’s not official, but Rodon left Tampa for New York on Wednesday so that he can participate in Friday’s home opener festivities at Yankee Stadium. Rehabbing from offseason elbow surgery, Rodon hasn’t been shut down from throwing since feeling some hamstring discomfort on Monday.

What comes next will be determined on Thursday or Friday after the 2025 All-Star and 18-game winner is examined by Yankees athletic trainers. “He threw again (Wednesday),” manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday before the Yankees-Mariners’ series finale. “I think he even got off the mound a little bit.

Not a full side, but he got off the mound. “We’ll see how the next few days go as far as when he gets back doing a side and the next live and all that. ” Boone isn’t sure if Rodon will throw another live BP before pitching in a rehab game, which would start a 30-day rehab assignment clock.

“It does seem to be a minor thing, but we’ll have a better feel over the next couple days when our trainers get with him and see how he’s progressing each day,” Boone added. As for optioned fifth starter Luis Gil, the righty threw a bullpen early this week in Tampa to prep for a start with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday. That will have Gil lined up to be called up and start Friday, April 15 against the Rays in St.
