The long-time MLB umpire, though, was in everyone's thoughts for a different reason on Wednesday. Bucknor was behind home plate for the matchup between the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays , but he exited the game early after taking a foul ball to the head. Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski was pitching, and Nick Fortes was at the plate with two strikes.
The lanky Misiorowski fired one of his high-velocity offerings, and Fortes fouled the 100 MPH pitch straight back into the front of Bucknor's mask. It was essentially a direct shot right into the face, and it knocked Bucknor backward. CB Bucknor took a foul ball to the mask and was in visible pain.
