Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora announced, per MassLive's Christopher Smith , that they'll shut down Casas "for a while" because of a setback. The first baseman, who is recovering from a left patellar tendon rupture, is dealing with sore ribs. "It just happened a few days ago, so we have to slow it down," Cora said before Wednesday's game against the Houston Astros.
"Nothing related to the knee. Heโs doing well, but this happened swinging, so we have to shut him down swinging-wise for I donโt know how long. " Casas hasn't played since suffering the season-ending injury 11 months ago.
MassLive's Chris Cotillo recently speculated that the first baseman could be ready to return around June 1. The setback will probably delay that timetable as Casas pauses baseball activities. It could also further cloud his path back to the big leagues this season.
