It’s the final week on the PGA Tour before the Masters. The Valero Texas Open will kick off this week in a final test for golfers before they head to Augusta National in just a few days for the first major championship of the year. Many of the sport’s top golfers, however, are skipping this week.
Masters defending champion Rory McIlroy is planning to arrive at Augusta National early this weekend, and top-ranked Scottie Scheffler is still away for the birth of his second child after his late withdraw last week in Houston. Collin Morikawa withdrew from the Valero Texas Open on Tuesday due to a lingering back injury, and Gary Woodland pulled out after his emotional win in Houston last week. Tommy Fleetwood and Ludvig Åberg are perhaps the biggest names in the field this week.
Fleetwood, at No. 4 in the Official World Golf Rankings, is the highest-ranked golfer in the field. Russell Henley is the only other one inside the top 10.
