Packers GM on Christian Watson extension: 'That would be good for both of us'
Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said he'd "certainly" like to keep Christian Watson around on a new extension.
The wide receiver contract market continues to explode, with Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Alec Pierce helping drive prices up, but Brian Gutekunst and the Green Bay Packers are still wanting to get a contract extension done with receiver Christian Watson, who is entering the final year of his current deal in 2026. Gutekunst said the Packers want Watson around long-term, and he thinks an extension would be beneficial for both player and team. "Certainly, we would like Christian around," Gutekunst said on Monday from the league meetings.
"He did an amazing job with his rehab process and was just a true pro. He's a unique individual as well and he did a lot of really good things for us the second half of the season. That'll be something, I think, that would be good for both of us if we could do that.
We'll kind of see how that goes. " Watson, who tore his ACL during the 2024 regular season finale, returned in Week 8 and finished with 35 catches for 611 yards and six touchdowns in 10 games in 2025. He added another three catches and a touchdown in the Packers' playoff loss in Chicago.
Watson averaged 11. 0 yards per target and 17. 5 yards per catch.
