Wildcats’ pitching outduels Pirates

COLUMBIA FALLS — The arms were alive in Columbia Falls Tuesday as the Wildcats and Polson allowed just five hits combined in a 3-1 win for the hosts. Zeke Dunn grounded out in the first for Columbia Falls (1-1) and brought in Lincoln Fisher for the opening run of the game. Later in the in the inning, Jett Pitts came home on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 Wildcats.

Columbia Falls went up 3-0 on an error in the third that allowed Pitts to score his second run of the game. He also singled for one of the Wildcats’ two hits on the day. Polson (1-2) had three hits in the game, all coming for extra bases.

Holden Emerson doubled in the first as Pitts shut down the Pirates with three strikeouts. Cole Wadsworth had the Pirates’ other two hits — a double in the third inning and a solo home run in the seventh. Pitts struck out six in three innings of work on the mound.

Tayvin Beach added five strikeouts in four innings of relief. Cody Haggard allowed two earned runs on two hits in 3 2-3 innings. Liam Jackson threw 2 1-3 innings of no-hit relief.

Frenchtown 18, Ronan 0 FRENCHTOWN — Cash Mickey doubled and drove in two runs, while Dawson Rodoni added five RBIs in a runaway victory for Frenchtown. The Broncs (3-0) scored 13 runs in the opening frame as they took advantage of four walks and four errors. Mickey and Brooks Day opened the scoring with back-to-back doubles to put Frenchtown ahead.
