Despite plenty of runners getting on base, the Scarlet Knight runners failed to capitalize, which allowed the Pridesโ bats to get going on the other side, ultimately leading to the loss.
Rutgers would get on the board first in the first inning with Trey Wells hitting a sacrifice fly RBI to bat in Peyton Bonds, which give the Knights a one-point lead at the end of the first inning. Hofstra would respond in the third and fifth innings, with the Pride tying the score in the third inning and scoring two more in the fifth to give themselves a three-point lead. After being held scoreless for six straight innings, the Knights would attempt to rally in the eighth inning.
Matt Chattelle would hit a single to right field, which allowed Yomar Carreras to run in from second base. However, the scoring for Rutgers would stop here as the Hofstra defense held throughout the rest of the inning. Rutgers outhit Hofstra by an 11-7 margin in the game but left 11 runners on base in the game.
Down a run going into the bottom of the ninth, Peyton Bonds led off with a single but the Hofstra defense stranded him on second to win the game. The Knights pitchers had a solid performance in the losing effort. Relief pitcher Andrew Rondini contributed 3.
