49ers’ $9 million plan to address their biggest problem

Yahoo Sports

The San Francisco 49ers had a real problem keeping their players on the field last season, and they're making upgrades to hopefully help there.

The San Francisco 49ers battled injuries constantly throughout their 2025 campaign, as some of their best players missed significant time, and those lost snaps may have cost them games. Part of the issue may have been the 49ers ' training room and staff, as the NFLPA report card gave San Francisco a C- in both categories this year. In the past, players have mentioned that the team lacked hot and cold tup space and had issues with broken showers and saunas.

Speaking earlier this week, 49ers general manager John Lynch announced that the team is spending $9 million this offseason to upgrade their hydro area, which includes cold tubs and hot tubs. They're also adding a trio of new physical therapists to the staff. “The modern athlete wants more one-on-one attention,” Lynch said ( transcribed by The Athletic ).

“So that’s something in the surveys — when we dug deeper it was, ‘not enough personnel. ’ We were well-staffed but not at the top of the league. Now we’ll be up there at the top of the league.

” Some injuries will still come down to luck, but the 49ers hope that these changes can give their players more confidence in the team's ability to help them recover and prepare throughout the year.
