Deutscher Skiverband/dsv/dpa Andreas Mitter has been promoted from assistant to head coach of the German men's ski jumping team in succession of fellow Austrian Stefan Horngacher, the national federation DSV said on Wednesday.
Horngacher left the DSV after seven years at the end of the season last week. He led jumpers to several titles, the last an Olympic gold from Philipp Raimund two months ago at the Milan/Cortina Games. Mitter, 44, was Horngacher's assistant the last three years and Finland head coach in the past.
DSV sporting director Horst Hรผttel said that Mitter "knows the ski jumping system in Germany inside out. We are confident that Andreas, with his expertise and strong commitment, will be able to provide the necessary fresh impetus. โ Mitter said: "Together with my fellow coaches, we want to bring a fresh approach to our training work in order to develop the teamโs potential to the fullest.
" Mitter faces a big challenge to improve the team which apart from Raimund's Olympic gold and World Cup win in Lahti had no top spot.
