The National Women’s Soccer League has added two senior executives to its leadership ranks. The league said it has hired Brian Kelly as chief commercial officer and Rachel Epstein as chief marketing officer. Kelly will oversee revenue-generating functions, including sponsorships and media rights, while Epstein is expected to lead brand development and fan-engagement initiatives.
The timing is not accidental. The league opened the 2026 season with strong attendance and viewership, including a crowd of 63,004 for Denver Summit FC’s first home game, at Empower Field at Mile High. But big crowds and rising interest do not automatically translate into revenue.
The hires suggest the league believes it needs more experienced operators focused on growing the league’s revenue, increasing sponsorship sales and brand positioning, areas where it has historically lagged more established leagues. “As we enter this pivotal next phase of growth for the NWSL and women’s soccer, finding the right leaders to guide our future is of paramount importance,” NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman said in a statement. “Throughout the search, it became clear that Brian and Rachel are uniquely equipped to help shape the next chapter of the league as we continue to accelerate our growth, expand our global footprint and elevate the league’s cultural and commercial impact.
