Lawrence (Mass.) football announces new head coach
Lawrence High School’s (Mass. ) football program hasn’t experienced a winning season since 2008 and are hoping their next hire as head football coach will spark a turnaround for the 2026 campaign. According to an announcement by the school on Tuesday, the Lancers have named Christian Guzman as the program’s next head football coach.
Guzman served as an assistant under the previous head coach, Emilio Colon . ‘For those of you with strong connections to the Lancer Community, Coach Guzman’s name is very familiar. He brings over 15 years of coaching varsity football at Lawrence, Greater Lawrence, and Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High Schools, where he served as Defensive Coordinator.
Coach Guzman also served as an assistant wrestling coach here at Lawrence in that 15 year span, and last year was named the Varsity Head Wrestling Coach. In addition to fulfilling these coaching roles, he works as a School Resource Officer at Haverhill High School. Coach Guzman’s passion for this community, energy, youth, experience, and knowledge make him the perfect fit.
We hope his ability to connect with students in a meaningful way and his team-first philosophy will help to build a winning culture here at LHS. As a former Lancer himself, Coach Guzman embodied what is means to be a Lancer as a student-athlete, and we couldn’t think of a better role model for our student-athletes. We look forward to working with Coach Guzman as he looks to make our football program successful for years to come.
’ Guzman, who also serves at the school as the head wrestling coach, will have plenty of work to do in looking to turnaround a Lawrence program that has gone through 17 straight non-winning seasons (finished 5-5 in 2011 according to MaxPreps). The Lancers’ lone victory last season came in a 16-14 overtime win over Classical . The Lancers ended this past season with a 1-10 record and finished ranked No.
