Former Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello reacts to San Francisco's series win at San Diego.
San Francisco (2-3) won its first series in 2026 under manager Tony Vitello . The Giants defeated San Diego (1-4), 9-3, on Tuesday at Petco Park in San Diego, California. The Giants totaled 16 hits, including four from shortstop Willy Adames.
He went 4-for-5 and hit one home run. Third baseman Matt Chapman also hit one home run for the Giants. Logan Webb (1-1) started for San Francisco and pitched six innings.
He recorded five strikeouts and 104 pitches (61 strikes) against 25 batters, earning his first win of the season. Vitello discussed the Giantsโ series win after the game. โI think what it tells you, if you take a step back and look at - so far it's five games, small sample size, but I'm a big believer if you're a good athlete, I wasn't, but if you're a good athlete and you just compete all nine innings, which is really hard to do every day, the game will tell you what you are and you'll end up where you're supposed to be," Vitello said .
"That should, at the very least, give you peace of mind, but again, if you're a good athlete, as an individual and as a team, you've got a group of good athletes, which I think we do, then you you should take comfort in the fact if you do keep pushing forward and competing, you know, after a big sample size, you'll end up where you're supposed to be, which should be in a good spot. โ A series finale between the Giants and Padres will be contested Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 4:10 p.
