Pontiac Silverdome WrestleMania III moment gets WWE Hall of Fame nod
A classic match from 1987 is heading into WWE's Hall of Fame.
Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant's era-defining match at WrestleMania III at the Pontiac Silverdome is headed into World Wrestling Entertainment's Hall of Fame. WWE announced Tuesday that the main event from the massive March 29, 1987 event is headed into the Hall. It is the second match to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame under its "Immortal Moments" category, following Bret Hart and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin's match at WrestleMania 13, which got the nod in 2025.
The Hogan-Andre match โ which saw the irresistible force meeting the immovable object, as commentator Gorilla Monsoon said on that day โ finished with Hogan picking up his opponent and slamming him to the mat. It had happened before, but it was sold as an impossible, first-ever occurrence , and became one of the biggest moments in the history of the WWE, then the WWF, unfolding in front of a reported (but much-contested) crowd of 93,173. More: Larger than life: An oral history of WrestleMania III The match will give Hogan his third spot in the WWE Hall of Fame; he was inducted in 2005, and again as a member of the New World Order in 2020.
Bret Hart is the only other three-time WWE Hall of Famer. It will mark Andre the Giant's second time in the Hall; he was also a member of the Hall of Fame's inaugural class in 1993. Andre, born Andrรฉ Renรฉ Roussimoff, died in 1993; Hogan, born Terry Bollea, died in 2025.
The Hogan-Andre match joins a 2026 WWE HOF class that includes A. J. Style, Stephanie McMahon and former Detroit Piston Dennis Rodman .
