The first three pitches thrown by Boston Red Sox pitcher Brayan Bello to Houston Astros hitter Cam Smith during the fifth inning on Tuesday night were swinging strikes.
Swing and miss, swing and miss, swing and miss. That's three strikes, right? Well somehow, after a bunch more pitches, Smith worked a walk.
Confused? Yeah, you should be. It appears that every person involved forgot the count.
The broadcast footage clearly shows the three swinging strikes to start the at bat. The problem is that on the second strike, the Red Sox proceeded to throw the baseball all around the yard, so much so that a run came in to score. It seems like the umpire never marked that pitch as anything.
