NFL approves changes rule with players on PUP

Yahoo Sports

NFL teams will now have a little more roster flexibility when it comes to preparing players from returning from PUP.

The NFL will have one little change to roster management and injuries before the season. Some players will be able to return to practice earlier. NFL owners voted this week at the league annual meeting that would allow players starting the season on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list could begin to practice as early as Week 3.

Previously, players on PUP could be designated to return after missing four games and would have a 21-day window to activate him. It would be possible for a player to practice one week and be activated for Week 5, missing only the first four games of the season. However, now teams can get players back to practice earlier.

Players would still have to miss at least four games, but the practice window could be opened earlier. Get more Cardinals and NFL coverage from Cards Wire's Jess Root and others by listening to the latest on the Rise Up, See Red podcast. Subscribe on Spotify , YouTube or Apple podcasts .
