With Mayfield currently under contract through 2026, the dialogue reflects both organizational confidence and a desire to maintain stability at the position.

“We have constant, we’ve had a lot of good conversations with Baker’s representatives,” general manager Jason Licht said via JoeBucsFan . “Like I said, that is always on our mind. Baker is a true professional.

He’s a leader of this team. I have confidence we’re going to be ok. ” Mayfield’s performance since arriving in Tampa Bay supports that approach.

Over the past three seasons, he has thrown for more than 12,000 yards and over 90 touchdowns, including a standout 2024 campaign in which he totaled 4,500 passing yards and 41 touchdowns while posting one of the best statistical seasons in franchise history. However, the situation is evolving. Wide receiver Mike Evans, the team’s longtime top target and a future Hall of Famer, departed for the San Francisco 49ers this offseason.

Evans’ consistency, including his streak of 1,000-yard seasons, made him a central figure in the offense and a key connection for Mayfield. Moving forward, Mayfield’s ability to adjust without Evans will be a significant factor as contract discussions continue.
