Sinner has been dominating lately, picking up titles at both Indian Wells and Miami. He’s expected to be Alcaraz’s main competition in Monaco. Even with Sinner playing so well, Alcaraz will still likely be seen as the player to beat in Monte Carlo.

Sinner held that spot for 66 straight weeks from June 2024 until September 2025, only losing it after his defeat to Alcaraz in the US Open final. Alcaraz is currently in his second spell as world number one, having first reached the top back in July 2022.

He now holds two of the longest streaks since Novak Djokovic last led the rankings: a 37-week run and his current spell that will hit 23 weeks after Monte Carlo. If both players are aiming for history, they’ve still got a long way to go. Novak Djokovic set an enormous standard with a record 428 weeks at number one.
