GC Golf: Landon Reece and Mildred ready to make stretch run back to state tournament

Yahoo Sports

Landon Reece and the Mildred Eagles play in their District Tournament this week, the first step to get back to the state golf tournament in Austin, where he has played the last three years. This will be Landon's last chance to win a state individual title. He's won just about everything else.

Honest, Reece has been the Golden Circle's version of Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer etc. etc. , depending on how old you are and what golf generation you follow.

For the past four years — while Landon was attending Mildred High School — he has not only dominated high school golf in Navarro County, but he has simply become the GOAT of golf in the Golden Circle, rising higher and higher since he led Mildred four years ago as a freshman. Reece finished 13th in the state as a freshman, and third as a sophomore in the Class 3A State Tournaments before his first appearance in the 2A State Tournament in 2025 when he led Mildred's Boys golf team when and set the pace for the best team finish in Mildred history in the Class 2A State Tournament, where Mildred tied Lipan for the State Runner-up spot, shooting a team score of 317. He returned to the courses in this part of the state this year as a senior and has been either unstoppable or invincible, depending on your taste in trying to describe the best young golfer anyone has ever seen in these parts.

He has been on fire during his senior year at Mildred. "There's never been anyone like him around here," Mildred Golf Coach Aaron Kinney said. "He's the kind of person coaches love to have on their team.

He's a great golfer, but he's an even better teammate. " Landon agrees with Kinney, saying "I just want to do my best and help my teammates. I would rather win the team state title than win the individual state title.
