It’s a record deal for a player before his MLB debut.

Colt Emerson is still waiting for his call-up moment, but the Seattle Mariners have reportedly agreed to an eight-year, $95 million contract extension with their top prospect — a record deal for a player yet to debut. Emerson, 20, is considered a consensus top-10 prospect in baseball, selected by the Mariners in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2023 MLB Draft. The deal, first reported by FanSided’s Robert Murray, includes a full-no trade clause and could reach $130 million with incentives.

It’s a contract that signals Seattle’s confidence in Emerson as a future infield cornerstone. The shortstop skyrocketed through the minor-league ranks in 2025, starting with High-A Everett before promotions to Double-A Arkansas and Triple-A Tacoma last summer. Emerson is 5-for-14 (.

The Mariners are expected to promote him to the major leagues in the coming months. “Honestly, when that (call-up) comes at some point, God willing, I’m going to go out there and be the same baseball player I am today,” Emerson said last week.
