What position can the Vikings address after Round 1 in the NFL Draft?
Day two and three of the NFL Draft is where teams are built, so who could the Vikings target after Round 1?
The Vikings' free agency has been a mixed bag of promising, cheap signings, but also some key losses. The team is without a full-blown general manager, but in the interim, Rob Brzezinski has done well to navigate a tough salary cap situation, as well as retain key players. All of that leads us to the NFL Draft being less than a month away, so the team needs to do one last reflection of their roster.
ESPN's Kevin Seifert broke down the team's needs in a recent piece and laid them out as being around the safety, center, and wide receiver positions. While the center position has the most options due to the team having Blake Brandel or Michael Jurgens to replace Ryan Kelly, the draft may have the key. That is why ESPN's Jordan Reid suggested the team find that replacement after round one of the annual league meeting.
In fact, he even has a name to suggest in Kansas State's Sam Hecht. Reid writes that Hecht is an ideal fit for teams that incorporate a lot of zone scheme principles. He's the third-best center inย my rankings ย and would provide immediate competition for Brandel.
" Hecht is considered by some to be the best center in the draft, but as Reid points out, he is third in his class rankings. The Vikings have shown they prioritize the interior offensive line after drafting Donovan Jackson at the guard position in round one last year. Taking Hecht on day two of the draft would be a great value, and give them a new starter that they need.
