Breaking down the St. John’s roster ahead of transfer portal as focus turns to replacing Zuby Ejiofor, others

For the fourth time in as many years under head coach Rick Pitino, St. John’s is set to look significantly different next season. That’s because the Red Storm are losing four starters, including their entire frontcourt, headlined by star forward/center Zuby Ejiofor .

With Friday night’s Sweet 16 loss to Duke in the rear-view mirror, St. John’s now turns its focus to rebuilding its roster. Since Pitino took over in 2023, the Johnnies have primarily assembled their teams through the transfer portal — an effort backed by billionaire booster Mike Repole.

The strategy has been successful, as St. John’s boasts two consecutive 30-win seasons and  back-to-back Big East regular-season and conference-tournament championships. RJ Luis Jr.

, who won Big East Player of the Year in 2025, and Ejiofor, who won that award among others this year, both joined St. John’s through the portal. “Our job is to find somebody to do it next year,” Pitino said recently.
