Minnesota Vikings will exercise fifth year option on star WR

Yahoo Sports

The Minnesota Vikings will exercise the fifth-year option of star wide receiver Jordan Addison, interim general manager Rob Brzezinski said Monday. "He's a really important player for us and an impact player," Brzezinski said. The timing of the contract is a bit odd, as Addison has had three run-ins with the police since joining the Vikings.

Addison was also benched at one point last season during an international game during Week 5 for missing a walk-through practice. In July 2023, Addison was cited for driving 140 mph on a Minnesota freeway. He agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor speeding charge, with the reckless driving charge dismissed.

He paid $686 in fines. Almost exactly one year later, Addison was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after police found him asleep behind the wheel of a car on a freeway near Los Angeles International Airport. Addison has been suspended by the NFL, placed on probation, and fined for the mounting incidents.

When on the field, Addison has been quite a productive member of the 2023 NFL wide receiver draft class, ranking first in catches with 175, first in touchdowns with 22, and fifth in yards per game with just over 52. We will see if Addison cleans up his act with the extension, because the next one may not be so generous if the violations persist.
