49ers rumored to play AFC East team in Mexico City game in 2026
The San Francisco 49ers haven't played an international game since 2022, and now they're playing two in 2026.
The San Francisco 49ers already know their opponent for one of their international games in 2026, as they'll take on the Los Angeles Rams in the league's first game in Melbourne, Australia. However, the 49ers are also set to play a game at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico, again in 2026, after playing there in 2022 and beating the Arizona Cardinals 38-10. While their opponent for this year's game in Mexico hasn't been officially announced, NBC Sports Bay Area's Jennifer Lee Chan revealed that she believes that Kyle Shanahan's team will take on the Miami Dolphins .
According to Lee Chan, the Dolphins will be the road team and the 49ers will be the designated home team for the game. San Francisco has played in three international games (two in the United Kingdom and one in Mexico City), and they've won all three of those matchups.
