With a win over the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday, Wisconsin’s men’s hockey program clinched a berth to the Frozen Four for the first time since 2010. Punctuated by Ben Dexheimer's overtime goal near the blue line, the Badgers scored three unanswered goals to overcome a 3-1 deficit in the NCAA Tournament's Quarterfinals. Mike Hasting's squad stands as one of the final four squads remaining for the first time in 16 years, when Wisconsin advanced to the title game against Boston College.

More specifically, that team went 28-11-4 on the year, including a 15-3-3 mark at home. To reach the Frozen Four, UW defeated Vermont and St. Cloud State 3-2 and 5-3, respectively, before squaring off against the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Fueled by two goals from Derek Stepan and five assists from Brendan Smith, UW wound up defeating the Tigers 8-1 to clinch a match with Boston College in the title game. BC's Cam Atkinson scored two goals to guide his Eagles to a 5-0 win and third title since the turn of the century. Throughout the season, Blake Geoffrion, Michael Davies, Brendan Smith and Ben Street headlined the Badgers roster.

Smith enjoyed a lengthy NHL career, and Geoffrion played with the Nashville Predators and Montreal Canadiens from 2010-13. This iteration of the Badgers will look to avenge the most recent Frozen Four squad and return to the mountaintop for the first time since the 2006 season, when UW defeated the Eagles 2-1.
