49ers in 'no rush' to move on from wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk
The San Francisco 49ers are in "no rush" to deal wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
The San Francisco 49ers and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk have been at odds for nearly two years now. After signing a four-year, $120 million contract extension in 2024, Aiyuk tore his ACL and MCL during that season and was placed on season-ending injured reserve. Ahead of the 2025 season, Aiyuk was placed on the PUP list, and in November 2025, the 49ers announced they had voided Aiyuk's 2026 guaranteed money for lack of participation.
Due to all of the drama and controversy, it's long been thought that the 49ers will release the veteran wide receiver, but the 49ers are in no hurry and would prefer to get something in return for Aiyuk. 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said the team hopes the team can get something in return for WR Brandon Aiyuk. He said he's not sure when that might take place, "I know we're in no rush to do that.

The Commanders need a wide receiver who can line up across from Terry McLaurin and take some of the attention off of him. This will free up Jayden Daniels to make more plays down the field, as defenses have to focus on multiple threats. It also helps that Daniels and Aiyuk are the best of friends.
