While it was only the first series of the year, fans have been waiting for the contact-heavy outfielder to find his stride. It’s safe to say he found it in the first two innings against future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander.
In the first inning, Carroll ripped a low 94. 2 mph fastball down the right-field line and raced around the bases for a triple, scoring Ketel Marte, who had singled in the at-bat before. With a chance to complete the cycle, Carroll couldn’t come up with the double and single he needed, but he worked a walk after striking out in his third at-bat.
Finishing with four RBIs to help lead the Diamondbacks to a 9-6 win over the Tigers, Carroll not only energized Chase Field, but also fans online who got to see the franchise cornerstone do what he does best. A Silver Slugger recipient for the 2025 season — and honored earlier in the night — Carroll remains expected to produce both contact and power alongside Marte and Geraldo Perdomo. Even after returning from a hamate bone injury in mid-February, Carroll’s recovery has been swift, and his hand doesn’t appear to be slowing him down at all.
