Arizona State men's basketball coach Randy Bennett has yet to be formally introduced because of a health situation that has come up.

It's been a week since Arizona State announced it was bringing over longtime Saint Mary's coach Randy Bennett to replace Bobby Hurley as its new men's basketball coach. The celebratory introductory press conference last week was postponed as the incoming coach was dealing with a health issue. There is still no clarity as to what the issue is, but Bennett, 63, put out a statement on his status.

โ€œLast week, when I arrived in Arizona, a health situation surfaced that Iโ€™m working through right now," his statement said. "Iโ€™m in good hands, we feel good about the plan, and Iโ€™m incredibly appreciative of the care Iโ€™ve received from the team at Mayo Clinic. Everything is under control, and I will be back at full strength very soon.

" The setback comes as the incoming coach has many duties on his plate. He is still assembling a coaching staff. Rick Croy and Joe Rahon will both join the program as associate head coaches.

Croy comes over from California Baptist, which participated in the NCAA Tournament after winning the Western Athletic Conference tournament. Croy was also an assistant on Bennett's staff for three years at St. Mary's.
