Local teams on the move during spring break
Local baseball and softball teams spent spring break week on the move. Astoria, Warrenton and Knappa teams traveled all around Oregon, while the Seaside girls softball team is currently spending time in the Arizona sun. Overall, spring break week showed more good results than bad.
Astoria girls bats wake up It took a few games, but the bats finally woke up for the Astoria girls softball team. After scoring a combined four runs in the first two games, the Fishermen exploded with 44 runs in their four games at The Dalles Tournament. Though the bats showed up, the Fishermen dropped the most important game of the weekend slate.
Thursday, the Fishermen took care of business against Cottage Grove and La Grande by a combined score of 31-9. Those two games consisted of every girl on the roster contributing offensively. Hailee Svensen and Lyla Carlson led the way against Cottage Grove with three hits apiece, while Kilee Svensen had two.
Carlson led the team with three runs batted in to boot. Game two against La Grande saw the Fishermen tally 16 hits, including seven of the position players with at least two hits and every position player reaching base. Friday was the day of heavyweights.
The first game was a playoff rematch against a fully reloaded The Dalles squad. After losing multiple players to 6A programs over the last couple of years, The Dalles have the look of a state title contender so far, even this early in the season. This game played out exactly as expected.
