Eliot Wolf on Christian Gonzalez's contract standing with Patriots

New England Patriots executive Eliot Wolf commented on Christian Gonzalez's current contract standing with the team.

New England Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf discussed star cornerback Christian Gonzalez’s potential contract extension in an interview with Kay Adams on Monday. Gonzalez is heading into Year 4 of his rookie contract, which makes him eligible for an extension. He could reset the market after the Los Angeles Rams made Trent McDuffie the NFL's highest-paid cornerback on a four-year, $124 million deal.

“Christian’s a tremendous player, and it’s no secret that we’d like to get something done with him," Wolf said on Up & Adams . “He’s a great talent. He’s one of the best players at his position in the NFL.

” Acknowledging Gonzalez's greatness and actually forking over a historic contract are two completely different things. The 23-year-old cornerback's stock continues to grow each year. He earned a Second-Team All-Pro nod in 2024, and he followed that up with his first Pro Bowl invite in 2025.

The price to keep Gonzalez won't get any cheaper for the Patriots , and it would make sense for them to move fast on a potential extension. But it might also pay off more for Gonzalez to take a step back before re-signing and allow the growing price tag over his head to continue going up. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook .
