Former UCF football coach Gus Malzahn is joining the College Football Playoff selection committee. The 60-year-old Malzahn recently retired from coaching after spending last season as the offensive coordinator at Florida State. He was the Knights’ coach for four seasons from 2021-24, posting a 28-24 overall record.

He’s one of three new faces joining the 13-member selection committee, along with Louisiana athletics director Dr. Bryan Maggard and former Cal and Fresno State coach Jeff Tedford. The new members will begin serving three-year terms this spring, replacing Chris Ault, Jeff Long and David Sayler.

“It’s an honor to be a part of the @CFBPlayoff committee,” Malzahn shared on social media Monday. “The additions of Bryan Maggard, Gus Malzahn and Jeff Tedford will introduce strong, fresh perspectives to the selection committee as we enter our 13th season,” Playoff executive director Rob Clark said in a statement. “Each brings a deep understanding of the game, a genuine passion for college football and a commitment to integrity and excellence.
