HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Monomoy softball posts win in season opener
Recapping Monday's Cape Cod high school sports action.
There was a little drama for the Monomoy softball team. In the Sharks' season opener, they jumped out to a big early lead, then held off a Plymouth North comeback in a 4-3 win on Monday. The Sharks led 4-0 before Plymouth North came back.
Kinsey Lister earned the win in the circle for the Sharks. She allowed four hits, struck out 14 and walked three. Willa Leighton went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in.
Arabella Higgins also had two hits for the Sharks. Also in high school sports action: Softball New Bedford 8, Sandwich 2: The Blue Knights (1-1) lost for the first time this season. Sandwich pitcher Sophie Farrington struck out 11 batters and gave up no earned runs.
Lane Kcaihanzel had a home run and Jenna Fay had an RBI single to lead the offense. Nauset 8, Wareham 2: The Warriors (1-0) won their opener. Pitcher Brynn Kew threw a one-hitter complete game with 19 strikeouts.
