A big time title fight is headed to Brooklyn, New York as The Ring is reporting that Xander Zayas is set to defend his WBA and WBO Junior Middleweight (aka Super Welterweight) titles against current interim WBA champion. Jarron Ennis , on June 27, 2026 inside Barclays Center. Ennis was linked to a fight against interim WBC champion, Virgil Ortiz , for a while now before a legal dispute between Ortiz and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions derailed the big time showdown.
As a result, Ortiz and De La Hoya’s partnership seems to be pretty much over , while Ortiz’s fighting career is currently at a standstill. Now, “Boots” has his eyes set on another big showdown in Zayas, the 23-year old Puerto Rican phenom who has taken the boxing world by storm thanks to his entertaining style that has helped him secure a a 23-0 record with 12 knockouts. Zayas won the WBO title by defeating Jorge Garcia Perez in July 2025, and then claimed the WBA strap six months later by defeating Abass Baraou via split decision.
As for Ennis (28), he has racked up and impressive 35-0-1 record and has an 89-percent knockout rate, stopping 31 of his opponents. “Boots” has been on a hunt for fights against Tank Davis and Devin Haney , but talks stalled during negotiations and eventually went up in smoke. The showdown is one of the best that could be made in boxing at the moment pitting two young and hungry champions who are hoping to take the next big leap in the sport toward superstardom.
