Steelers WR Roman Wilson gets 'fresh' look from Mike McCarthy
Mike McCarthy’s focus on versatility could give Roman Wilson a new role and renewed chance to contribute in the Pittsburgh Steelers' evolving offense.
New Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy is making it clear what he values in his wide receivers, and versatility sits at the top of the list. Speaking at the NFL Annual League Meeting, McCarthy emphasized the importance of receivers who can line up in multiple spots and contribute in different ways. That philosophy could directly impact how the Steelers evaluate and deploy their current group, especially younger players trying to carve out roles.
One name to watch is Roman Wilson. The former Michigan standout has yet to find his footing in Pittsburgh after an injury-filled rookie season and an inconsistent 2025 campaign. Still, McCarthy sees an opportunity for a reset.
“I really had a great conversation with him the other day, just looking forward to working with him,” McCarthy said, via Steelers Now . “New system, fresh start. I’m hoping he’s one of those guys that would benefit from it.
I was impressed talking football with him. There’s a lot of people that have a lot of love for him in the building. ” Wilson’s struggles have been well documented, but McCarthy’s comments suggest the new staff is willing to give him another look.
