Sean McVay says Rams are considering signing former Falcons QB Kirk Cousins

The Atlanta Falcons released Kirk Cousins roughly three weeks ago, but the veteran quarterback remains unsigned ahead of the 2026 NFL season. The 37-year-old is reportedly weighing his options in free agency and can afford to take his time before making a decision. While Cousins would likely prefer to start this season, he may not find an opportunity to do so in free agency.

If Cousins is willing to take a backup role, he should have no shortage of interested suitors. The Los Angeles Rams are one potential landing spot for Cousins in 2026. Rams head coach Sean McVay, who previously worked with Cousins for three seasons in Washington from 2014-2016, said the team is considering signing Cousins to back up league MVP Matthew Stafford in 2026.

"Those are things that we're very interested in possibly exploring, but again, it's really premature," McVay told reporters at the NFL league meeting. "I know Kirk has some other options and opportunities as well, but he's a guy that I have familiarity with, history and a lot of reverence for because of the gratitude from our experiences together. " "Kirk, come see us man.
