Arsenal’s Kai Havertz converted a penalty just before the stroke of halftime and Ghana’s Abdul Fatawu slotted it home in the 70th minute after the match had opened up a bit with the amount of changes Germany made in the second half.

In their previous friendly, they beat Switzerland 4-3 in Basel led by a brace of goals and assists from Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz. From the pair of friendlies, there were many positives, many things that certainly need plenty of work before this summer’s World Cup, and different players used by Julian Nagelsmann, but such was the nature of intention for these two friendlies. The former Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim manager has announced that he will name his Germany World Cup roster on May 12th, so the clock is already ticking.

With the win over Ghana, Nagelsmann is also now on a seven-match winning streak with the German national team — a run that stretches back to the September 2025 international break for World Cup qualifiers, starting with their 3-1 win over Northern Ireland that followed the shock 2-0 loss at Slovakia ( OptaFranz ). This is now Die Mannschaft’s longest running win streak since they won 8 straight matches from September 2021 to March 2022 under then manager Hansi Flick. He had taken over for Joachim Low after Euro 2020.

This period was predominantly World Cup qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but a poor run of results ultimately led to Nagelsmann taking over. There’s two friendlies left for Germany against Finland and the United States before the World Cup starts, so Nagelsmann has the chance to get to at least a ten-match win streak and then take it even further with however far they wind up going in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
