Vikings signing of Kyler Murray labeled as 'intriguing' by analyst

Yahoo Sports

CBS Sports believes Kyler Murray is one of the NFL's most intriguing free agent signings because of what Kevin O'Connell can do with him.

The Minnesota Vikings haven't been as busy as most teams in free agency, but they did sign Kyler Murray, potentially providing them the kind of quarterback play that can get the team back to the playoffs. Murray hasn't been as effective in recent years, but he's a former No. 1 overall pick with a dynamic skill set.

Paired with Kevin O'Connell and other offensive weapons, Murray could be in for a career resurgence in 2026. Jared Dublin of CBS Sports says that Murray is one of the most "intriguing" offensive free agent acquisitions of the offseason. However it happens, O'Connell and Murray are likely going to meet somewhere in the middle rather than having one of them make an extreme shift to the other's end of the spectrum.

And the balance they strike, and how they strike it together, will determine the strength of a Minnesota offense that has an incredibly high ceiling due to the plethora of skill-position talent on hand combined with Murray's own skill set. The Vikings are only paying Murray $1. 3 million in 2026, adding another level of intrigue to the signing.

With Arizona on the hook for $36. 8 million of his contract this year, Murray provides Minnesota with a valuable asset at the sport's most important position. If he can play closer to the level he did as a Pro Bowler in 2020 and 2021, Murray could not only lead the Vikings back to the postseason but also set himself up for a massive payday next offseason.
