Michigan football transfer Smith Snowden explains why he followed coach Kyle Whittingham from Utah, citing his winning culture.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Wolverines brought in 16 transfers this offseason, with five (technically) having followed head coach Kyle Whittingham from Utah to Michigan football (Salesi Moa is a true freshman and has yet to play for Whittingham, but he had enrolled with the Utes before transferring). While it isn't a mass exodus from Salt Lake City to Ann Arbor, it's still relatively notable that many did follow.

Given that, why did they? Cornerback Smith Snowden was one of the more highly sought-after players on the transfer market. Notre Dame and Oregon were working hard to get him to spurn his former head coach, but even after visits to Eugene and South Bend, Snowden still made his way to Ann Arbor.

On Monday, he shared more about why he decided it was important to have consistency at the head coaching level in terms of his personal development, and he shared his full belief in what Whittingham is capable of overseeing a program. "I committed to Coach Whittingham from the University of Utah. I've seen what he's put in the NFL and seen what he continues to do," Snowden said.

"I know that he has a winning culture, and I think sky's really the limit for Coach Whitt at Michigan. I think that he has the opportunity to get the best guys in the country, and he's going to really make things shake. " Now, Snowden is one of three defensive players who went from Utah to Michigan (edge rusher John Henry Daley and defensive tackle Jonah Lea'ea are the others), so he's one of a few who can parlay the expectations to his newfound teammates.
