Georgia baseball moves to USA TODAY coaches poll top-5 after SEC sweep

The Georgia Bulldogs have moved up a couple of spots in the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll after sweeping the South Carolina Gamecocks in a three-game SEC series. Georgia bounced back after suffering a shocking midweek loss to Kennesaw State . Georgia is now ranked No.
5 in the poll (the Bulldogs were previously ranked No. 7). The Bulldogs have a record of 23-6 (7-2 SEC) and have won all three of their SEC series to start the season.
Georgia and manager Wes Johnson have the best (tied with Mississippi State and Texas) record in the SEC thus far. Georgia's pitching staff staff stepped up for the first two games of the series against the Gamecocks. The Bulldogs held South Carolina, who recently fired their manager , to three total runs on Friday and Saturday.
Following Friday's 5-2 win and Saturday's 3-1 win, Georgia completed the sweep against South Carolina (13-16, 1-8 SEC) on Sunday thanks to a strong hitting performance. The Bulldogs accumulated 14 hits and nine runs in their 9-7 win to close the series against South Carolina. Georgia scored a pair of go-ahead runs off a Daniel Jackson double in the bottom of the eighth.
