Mandatory Credit: Troy Taormina-Imagn Images | Troy Taormina-Imagn Images Kentucky Basketball has made a major move on the coaching staff, as Jackson State head coach Mo Williams is set to become an assistant coach under Mark Pope, according to KSR’s Jack Pilgrim . This news comes just days after Kentucky landed a commitment from Williams’ son, Mason Williams, a 4-star point guard in the class of 2026.

Safe to say this turned out to be a package deal. The elder Williams was a standout at Alabama from 2001-03 before entering the NBA Draft, then went on to have a 13-year NBA career that included an NBA Championship with the 2015-16 Cleveland Cavaliers. He was also an NBA All-Star in the 2008-09 season.

After retiring following the 2015-16 season, Williams would later become an assistant coach at Cal State Northridge (2018-20), then became the head coach at Alabama State (2020-22) before later taking the same position at Jackson State, where he’s been since the 2022-23 campaign.
