The Big Ten Conference series loss is the first of the season for the Bruins The Cornhuskers got the better of the Bruins with a blowout in the first game , but UCLA was able to split the series with a win in their second game. This time UCLA's rough second inning cost them the series as the Bruins desperately rotated through three pitchers to stop the six-run, Nebraska onslaught.
Keeping things close UCLA got on the board in the top of the first with a run scored from a hit by a pitch, but Nebraska wouldn't allow the Bruins to create more separation by closing out the the Bruins turn at bat with the bases loaded. The Cornhuskers started off the bottom of the first with a home run to center field to keep the game tied 1-1. Falling apart The Bruins had no answers for Nebraska's batters with all three of UCLA's pitchers in the second allowing a home run.
UCLA's sophomore Brynne Nally gave up a two-run homer, redshirt junior Sydney Somerndike came in relief and allowed a three-run homer and freshman Natalie Cable stepped on the mound and gave up a home run to end the Cornhuskers five hit, six run inning.
