The New England Patriots have already made moves at the wide receiver position this offseason, but rumors continue to swirl around them when it comes to swinging a trade for another pass catcher.
A. J. Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles remains the top option, but there are other names available, with one example being Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers.
Aiyuk didn't suit up at all in 2025 for the Niners, and as a result, the team is expected to part ways with him this offseason. While he is largely expected to get released, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed on Monday that San Fran would ideally trade him , and that it is not in a rush to move on from him just for the sake of doing so. "49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said the team hopes the team can get something in return for WR Brandon Aiyuk," Dianna Russini of The Athletic shared in a post on X.
"He said he's not sure when that might take place, 'I know we're in no rush to do that. '" Aiyuk enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2023 when he caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, but a torn ACL in 2024 and his aforementioned drama with the 49ers have led to him playing in just seven total games over the past two years. As a result, bringing Aiyuk to town for any sort of substantial price would have to be viewed as a risk.
