Philadelphia Wings to cease operations after 2025-26 lacrosse season
Philadelphia's professional lacrosse team, the Philadelphia Wings, will cease operations after the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
The Philadelphia Wings , Philly's professional lacrosse team, shit down at the end of the 2025-26 season, according to a statement from the team. "This was not an easy conclusion to reach, and it is one we considered with great care," the organization said in a statement posted to their website and social media on Monday. "We recognize that this news may come as a disappointment , and we want to express how grateful we are for your steadfast dedication to the team," the team said.
The team has one final home game scheduled for Saturday, April 11 at the Xfinity Mobile Arena against the Las Vegas Devil Dogs. Their season concludes on the road with an April 18 matchup against the Vancouver Warriors. The Wings were re-established in 2017 and returned to competition in the National Lacrosse League in 2018, reviving a franchise that stretches back to 1987.
The team relocated to Connecticut in 2014 where they became the New England Black Wolves before the franchise returned to Broad Street. "The team has proudly carried on Philadelphia's rich lacrosse tradition at the highest level," the statement read. The Wings current players will likely try to find roster spots on other teams throughout the league following the conclusion of this season and the team encouraged fans to continue to support them as they continue their careers elsewhere.
The organization did not provide any additional information about the reasons behind the decision. Lacey Latch is the development reporter for the Bucks County Courier Times and The Intelligencer. She can be reached at LLatch@usatodayco.
