On Sunday, they made a trade with the Miami Marlins . The deal was reported by insider Francys Romero : Blue Jays get prospect Dub Gleed and $250,000 in international bonus pool money. Marlins get infielder Leo Jimenez.
Jimenez didn't make the Opening Day roster, but he didn't have any minor league options remaining, so he had to pass through waivers. 229 batting average in 210 MLB plate appearances across the last two seasons. He actually has a 101 wRC+ in his MLB career, which means he's been one percent better than a league average hitter at creating runs. The Blue Jays didn't have space for him in the infield, though, and now the Marlins will try to make room.
