FC Nürnberg. Coming off a hard-fought win over Manchester United in the Champions League midweek, coach José Barcala made no less than seven changes to his team. Only Giulia Gwinn, Georgia Stanway, Arianna Caruso, and Carolin Simon remained from the eleven that started at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Perhaps it was a combination of the heavy rotation and travel fatigue, with Bayern having played a whopping four away games in a row up until then, but they looked uncharacteristically sluggish, especially in the first half. In fact, they were lucky not to go into halftime a goal down when some faulty footwork from goalkeeper Mala Grohs resulted in a dangerous chance. But the crowd at the FC Bayern Campus did not have to wait long after the restart, with Edna Imade scoring off a corner barely a minute in.
Imade had a bit of a scare when she was kicked in the head while scoring, but it was thankfully nothing to worry about. The game remained quite loose after the opener, and Barcala opted to give his starters even more rest by pulling off Gwinn and Momoko Tanikawa on the hour mark. Goalscorer Imade remained on the pitch, and capped off her prolific afternoon by supplying Natalia Padilla-Bidas with a well-aimed low cross in the 80th minute.
