UNC has put the new arena discussions on pause due to the coaching search

The two biggest storylines surrounding the UNC basketball program is the search for a new head coach and the future of the Dean Dome. As North Carolina continues to pursue coaches, there was a big development in the stadium situation. On Sunday, the university made the announcement that the basketball arena outlook is on hold due to the coaching change with the men's basketball program.

This comes after years of study about the Dean Dome. โ€œThe University of North Carolina is suspending ongoing discussions about the future of the Smith Center in order to focus on identifying and selecting a new head menโ€™s basketball coach,โ€ UNC said in a statement. โ€œArena discussions will resume after the new coach has had time to acclimate to the program and focus on future needs.

โ€ The university has made it known they would like to build a new arena at the Carolina North site. However, a push from former players and coaches, including Roy Williams wants the Dean Dome to be renovated. It's a battle that has gone on for a while and now, won't come to a conclusion anytime soon.
