Rick Barnes reacts to Tennessee's NCAA Tournament loss to Michigan
Tennessee coach Rick Barnes discusses the Volunteers' 92-65 loss to Michigan in the NCAA Tournament, ending their season.
As a 6-seed, Tennessee certainly wasn't Cinderella, but it was flying high after taking down 2-seed Iowa State in the Midwest region of the 2026 NCAA Tournament. But then the Vols ran into Michigan. The Wolverines absolutely eviscerated the Volunteers, 92-65, at the United Center in Chicago, going from a 16-point tie with just under 11 minutes in the first half, to closing out the first half up almost 30.
Ultimately, Michigan finished with a 33-point win to survive and advance to the Final Four. The maize and blue have never lost to Tennessee, having faced three times before Sunday. And Barnes has overseen the last two matchups from the Knoxville side.

We're obviously disappointed. We think that we're better than what we showed today. And we sort of, well, the game was kind of where we had it in the first, what, eight-to-10 minutes.
