Why did the Golden Knights fire Bruce Cassidy with 8 games left?

Yahoo Sports

WHOA. The Vegas Golden Knights made a coaching change with eight games left before the NHL playoffs. Why?

Bruce Cassidy had it all when it came to a coaching resume in Las Vegas: A Stanley Cup title in his first season and a 178-99-43 record overall and playoff appearances every year heading into this season. But the team is underachieving in 2025-26. The Golden Knights have 80 points and are holding on to the No.

3 spot in the Pacific. The postseason is in the near distance... but the team is mired in a slump, having won just once in it's last seven contests and three times in its last nine.

And evidently, that was enough to give Cassidy the hook RIGHT before the playoffs, bringing in veteran bench boss John Tortorella. Why? NHL.

com's Dan Rosen had this to say: Anybody that is surprised that the Vegas Golden Knights would make this sharp of a turn behind the bench from Bruce Cassidy to John Tortorella with eight games remaining in the regular season has not been paying attention to the Vegas Golden Knights since they joined the NHL. — Dan Rosen (@drosennhl) March 29, 2026 They make hard decisions. They remove emotion to make those decisions.
