Florida State falls to Duke in series finale, 11-4.
The Florida State Seminoles were defeated by the Duke Blue Devils 11-4 in convincing fashion, earning the series win still.
The No. 8 Florida State Seminoles wrapped up their three-game series with the Duke Blue Devils with a disappointing 11-4 loss on Sunday at Dick Howser Stadium, completing the series. They have fallen to 21-6 (7-2, ACC) on the season, but are still a nearly perfect 16-2 at home.
In the first inning, it was a scoreless tie with Duke being able to get a few runners on base before their side was retired, and the Seminoles failed to respond. In the second, Duke put up two runs on the part of a Brooks Perez single that led to Coltin Quagliano and Michael DiMartini scoring. No scoring in the third, but in the fourth, Tyler Albright singled to left field to make it a 3-0 game, and a grand slam was launched into deep left field by Matthew Strand to put Duke up by seven.
RJ Hamilton walked to tack on one more run. The Seminoles finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth when Hunter Carns doubled down the left field line and Brayden Dowd scored to make it 8-1. Bases loaded at the top of the seventh by Duke ultimately proved useful, as Duke scored another run on the part of an RJ Hamilton sacrifice fly to let Coltin Quagliano score.
9-1, Duke. FSU's Carter McCulley scored thanks to a John Stuetzer fielder's choice hit, followed by a Cal Fisher sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth that led to Eli Putnam scoring, cutting Duke's lead to 9-3. In the top of the ninth, a Perez Brooks sacrifice fly extended the lead to seven again, thanks to a Quagliano score.
